Dear readers and friends from Korea and Switzerland,
Here in Korea, we are celebrating the week of the Lunar New Year. It is a time of gratitude and reflection. Therefore, we, the team of Schauplatz Magazine, would like to look back on our two years of existence and share with you some news as well as an outlook.
Lunar New Year – Year of the Black Rabbit
In Asia, including Korea, the Year of the Rabbit is upon us. Although the Year of the Rabbit occurs every 12 years, the Year of the Black Rabbit occurs only every 60 years. The last Year of the Black Rabbit was 1963. In the lunar calendar, 60 years marks the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one, which is why the number 60 is significant in Korean culture.
The Koreanification of the world is unstoppable
K-pop, K-dramas, K-food, and more recently, webtoons are terms and cultural goods familiar in Europe and exported to other countries as part of the Hallyu Korean Wave. There’s no question about it: if you want to keep up with K-consumption in the future, you need to know Korean. And of course, it is exciting when the friendliness is mutual.
This has also left its mark on us. After two years of Schauplatz-Korea Magazine, there is a lot that is new. This is typical of Korea: after two years, the restaurant around the corner needs a new interior, a product needs a relaunch, or…
Schauplatz-Korea Magazine becomes Schauplatz Magazine…
…and now also reports in Korean. After 24 months and more than 60 stories about Korea and Koreans, countless exciting encounters, and a YouTube channel, it’s high time to bring a little more yang and balance to our online platform.

Internationally positioned from the very beginning, we celebrate the diversity of life on our team as well. Some of our friends have set out to get to know Switzerland better for you and to report on exciting characters. True stories are told by real people in their own words. We will continue to be there for you and stay true to our motto – stories and features about living and thriving – in South Korea and now in Switzerland. By people for people.
It goes without saying that a lot of heart, soul and countless hours of work go into this. Step by step, together we have managed to present Schauplatz Magazine to an ever-growing audience. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Korean graphic designer in Berlin, the IT support in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the translators and editors in the USA, and the administrators and authors in Korea and Switzerland, who make it possible for us to transport exciting stories into the world through this channel. We are proud of you!
Visual Storytelling Contest – Switzerland – South Korea
In 2023, the year in which Switzerland and the Republic of Korea will celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, we want to let our young people have their say. True to the motto: Understand people, experience stories, and help shape journalism. With the support of the Swiss Embassy in Korea, we are launching a visual storytelling competition for teenagers and young adults. Read more about it and how to register in our article.
