Greem, cartoons and…coffee

Where three-dimensional guests drink coffee while posing for a selfie on two-dimensional chairs.

Admittedly, when we talk about trends, we usually mean something current and new. But when introducing the Greem Cafe I make an exception here. It opened in Seoul back in 2019 and is still very trendy today. The main attraction is not the coffee, but rather the special interior design. When we enter the premises, we emotionally enter a two-dimensional world. The walls, floor, furniture as well as knives and forks were designed and conceived in such a way that they let us live for a short moment in a drawing, a cartoon. One gets the impression that the room consists only of paper and black ink.

The owner was inspired by the Korean cartoon series W. This series is about a man caught between a cartoon reality and the world. The name of Greem Cafe comes from the Korean word 그림 Greem, which means cartoon or painting.

If you want to avoid long lines, it’s best to visit Greem Cafe on a weekday. And selfie photos are only available after you’ve consumed something. Just recently, another, larger Greem Cafe was opened on Jeju Island. More cafes of this kind are planned.
